Ravi Coltrane, born August 6, 1965, is a Grammy-nominated American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. The son of legendary musicians John and Alice Coltrane, Ravi was raised in Los Angeles after his father's death. He initially played clarinet before pursuing the saxophone in his early twenties, studying music at the California Institute of the Arts. Deeply influenced by the M-Base movement and his work with saxophonist Steve Coleman, Ravi developed a distinct voice that blends post-bop tradition with contemporary improvisational ideas.
Over the course of his career, Coltrane has performed and recorded with jazz greats such as McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, and Branford Marsalis. As a leader, he's released several acclaimed albums including *Moving Pictures*, *In Flux*, and *Spirit Fiction*. He also co-founded RKM Music, producing albums for other forward-thinking jazz artists. Beyond his performance work, Ravi is committed to preserving his family’s legacy through The Coltrane Home, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the contributions of John and Alice Coltrane.
